ADAP Nanotech, LLC (“ADAP”) specializes in manufacturing and commercialization of vertically aligned carbon-nanotube (VACNT) based*, thermally and electrically conductive adhesives and coatings. ADAP is initially focusing on the thermal interface material (TIM) market. TIM are used in the electronics industry to facilitate cooling of electronic components. TIM have become extremely important in design of electronic component because ever increasing consumer demand for both smaller and higher performance electronic devices has led to significant increase in heat generation per unit area.
ADAP’s proprietary VACNT thermal pads (now being introduced to the market under the NanoTIMTM name) offer a 300% improvement in heat transfer compared to the traditional polymer–based thermal pads currently in use at a very competitive price. ADAP has developed a patent protected pilot scale production system to form NanoTIM and has received strong demand from a number of potential customers who have independently evaluated ADAP’s material. NanoTIM’s superior properties would allow these customers overcome their existing thermal management problems and help them implement more compact electronic component designs.
*CNTs are nano scale (10 -9 m in diameter) “ tubes” of graphite with unique electrical and mechanical properties. The design of CNT adhesives was inspired from fibrillar adhesives found in nature on gecko feet and sometimes referred to as “gecko-tape”. ADAP’s “gecko tape” based technology has aired on the Discovery channel and has won many prestigious awards, including: “Innovations that could change the way you manufacture” by Society of Manufacturing Engineering (2008), Lorain County Community College Innovation Fund award (2009), Air Force STTR grant (2010), and Civic Innovation Lab award (2010).
